R U a Black Sheep?

Authors Note: ‘black’ in the context of this article has absolutely nothing to do with human skin pigment. It is an idiom that expresses a figurative and non-literal meaning. It relates to personal conduct, non-conformity, attitude and human behavior.

Life is a Sport

Life is a Sport. I mean this not only figuratively, but also literally. It is my contention that life itself is an actual sport, a sport designed by nature and governed by the rules of physics, chemistry and biology. We are the players in the game and like any sport, there is a beginning and an end.

Articles of Prime Importance

These are some of my favorite articles as they that have stood the test of time and/or possess both powerful and thought provoking insight. I recommend that you take whatever time it takes to go through them and carefully consider what the authors have to say. When it comes to your personal health, ignorance is not bliss!

Back To Nature

Although we are certainly derived from nature, human activity in all its bizarre and unique forms is frequently interpreted as a separate category from so-called ‘natural’ or non-human related phenomena.

Are Humans Becoming Less Intelligent?

Well, one thing’s for sure. Our brains are getting smaller. That’s right, that’s what scientists now claim. The consensus among those with enough intelligence left to care and do the research, is that our brains are much smaller than the brains of our ancestors some 20,000 years ago … and what’s more, this loss of brain mass is actually related to the introduction and widespread influence of agriculture.

The Pareto Principle

I’ve worked in the health food and fitness industry for 40+ years now and the contradiction, backstabbing and hypocrisy that rages on at the highest levels continues. If you could see what goes on behind closed doors in the health food and fitness industry you might lose faith. But don’t. The principles on which this industry is founded are as real as the earth beneath your feet.

The Costanza Principle

George Costanza from the hit comedy Seinfeld is my hero. Like George I pay attention to how things are done by conventional mainstream, but in real time, I do the exact opposite. This is my formula for personal success. In matters of behavior that relate to my own personal health and wellness, I DO THE OPPOSITE of what the collective does.

the Science of Living Well: Blue Zones

Blue Zones describe specific geographical regions on the planet where people live not only to ripe old ages, like an average of 95-105, but who also retain their mental and functional capacity right up the end. In other words, they experience both quantity and quality of life.

the Science of Living Well: Calorie Restriction

Calorie restriction (CR) is a dietary construct based intentionally on the consumption of less calories than required to sustain the premeasured metabolic needs of a living organism.

the Science of Living Well: Neuroplasticity

During the 20th century most neuroscientists thought of the brain as a static structure and impossible to alter, modify or change after early childhood. But fortunately for all of us still alive today, recent research has shown this belief to be erroneous.
