Vernon Hammer Classic 2017 (Competition & Clinic)

Meet & Clinic Schedule & Time Table
9:00 am - 9:45 am Hammer weigh-in for athletes wishing to throw their own implement during competition
Outdoor Meeting begins with welcome from Meet Director and quick intro's, then Chief Official will explain the rules and regulations of hammer throwing.
Warm-up throwing for everyone
11:00 am Competition Begins Hammer Up!
Open Hammer throw event begins, starting with the youngest to the oldest. Flights may be necessary depending on number of participants. During this time a designated videographer will make at least one video of every thrower. This meet is sanctioned by BC Athletics so the throws and any records will be submitted to BC Athletics for record keeping.
1:00 pm Competition Ends Hammer Down!
Throwing Event ends (approx).
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Lunch Break
Lunch Break. Everyone, including athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers are invited to a complimentary and nutritious hammer lunch at the on site track classroom meeting room (see layout below Building 7). During this time there will be a short lecture on sports nutrition for athletic performance and health, and we will go through some of videos on screen together as a group to discuss, analyze and learn together.
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Clinic Begins Get Hammered!

Outdoor drills and personal coaching
Teaching from inside the cage to the group
Winds (swing demo & drills)

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Novice Throwers Hammer Time!
Open Throwing for Novice Throwers with assistance and coaching
Hammer Throw For the Beginner
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm Awards
Awards and medals presented, Special Guest speaker, event ends
All throwers will be age graded and scored according to BC Athletics standards. Throwing commences from youngest to the oldest. Flights and groups based on age or gender may be necessary to form if the number of throwers in a certain age or gender exceeds a certain total. This will be decided by the Chief Official. After online registration, each thrower will be contacted by email and/or phone to verify age, gender, BC Athletics Membership number, throwing experience, T-Shirt size and details pertaining to the event. This is an open event. International throwers welcome!

- Novice category for first time throwers, especially those who just want to just ‘try’ throwing the hammer with assistance and encouragement from our management team
Event Host and Executive Producer
Meet Our Management Team
Cory Holly is the President and Founder of the Cory Holly Institute. In business he operates an online school as a naturopath that teaches the virtue of optimum health and how to achieve it through nutrition and exercise. Cory is a Grandmaster natural bodybuilding champion and competitive Masters hammer thrower. He is a father to three and a grandfather to four.
Assistant Meet Director
Tracy Holly is the Executive Director of the Cory Holly Institute. She is a whole food cook and the author of The Athlete's Cookbook. Tracy teaches Latin & Ballroom dancing and manages a Bollywood Troupe in Vernon. She loves her grandchildren and encourages all kids to be active and fit.
Hedley Larsen is an insurance agent with Capri Insurance. He is the Throws coach with the Vernon AAA Track club and is also a competitive Masters Discus and Shot put thrower. Hedley loves coaching and being involved with track and field. He is a proud father of three.
Attila Torok is a born and raised Hungarian hammer thrower who was privileged to train and compete with some of the best throwers in the world for 10 years. Master coach Pál Németh helped Attila achieve several national champion titles at an early age. Attila's hammer training ended at age 18 due to mandatory military service, but his passion for the hammer was fused into his heart forever. Today Attila throws for fun, but he plans to get back to competition and help others improve their technique/distance.
